In collaboration with Esther van der Sande of Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nederland, with whom we share our vision on healing, safety, and body-oriented work. When you have experienced sexual abuse or sexual violence, the connection with your body can become deeply disrupted. Your body may no longer feel like a safe place, and sensing or feeling what is happening inside can become overwhelming or extremely difficult.
At Project Speak Now, we believe that restoring this connection with the body is an essential part of healing. That’s why, in collaboration with Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nederland, we offer Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY).
Traumasensitive Yoga
With Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, we gently invite you, step by step, to reconnect with yourself through breath, movement, and presence. Everything offered in these sessions is an invitation. You choose, in every moment, what feels right for you, at your own pace. Nothing is required; and whatever you do choose is already enough.
This form of yoga was developed by the Center for Trauma and Embodiment in Boston (USA) and is the only scientifically researched yoga approach in the field of trauma. Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) is not therapy or a traditional yoga class, but an experiential practice in which you can explore being present in your body in a way that feels safe for you.
What can you expect?
- A series of 5 online group sessions in a small and supportive setting
- Guidance by Nicole Renne, certified TCTSY facilitator
- Not a talking session, but a body-oriented experience with space for closing and questions
- Support by Project Speak Now; lived-experience volunteers are present in the chat to offer safety and care
- Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes (10-minute arrival, 40 minutes of yoga, and 10-minute closing)
Our sessions are not about performance, but about experience. You don’t need any yoga experience; you are welcome exactly as you are.
For whom?
These yoga sessions are intended for people with a history of sexual abuse or sexual violence who are seeking a gentle, body-oriented approach to healing. You do not have to share your story. Simply being present is enough.
Safety and privacy
We do our best to create a safe and calm online environment. The sessions take place via Microsoft Teams. You can choose whether to keep your camera on or off, whatever feels most comfortable for you. All communication takes place through an anonymous chat function. You are free to move, pause, or step out of the session whenever you need to. Everything happens at your pace.

About the collaboration
For many years, Project Speak Now has offered a space for healing, recognition, and connection for people with a history of sexual abuse or sexual violence. Together with Esther van der Sande and Nicole Renne from Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nederland, we bring the body more consciously into the healing process, with attention, respect, and safety as our core values.
'I believe that every person carries an innate movement toward healing.
Sometimes all that is needed is a safe space in which that movement can be felt again.'
- Esther van der Sande, Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nederland
